Getting from Cairo airport to your hotel
Your options from Cairo International Airport into the city, how long the drive takes, and how to avoid the arrivals-hall hassle.

Cairo International Airport (CAI) sits northeast of the city. Downtown, Zamalek and Giza are all a drive away, and Cairo traffic decides how long that drive takes. Here's how to get there without stress after a long flight.
How long does it take?
Late at night the run downtown can be under 40 minutes. At rush hour the same trip can take well over an hour, and Giza, on the far side of the city, takes longer still. Allow plenty of time, especially for a departing flight.
Your options
| Option | Good for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-booked private transfer | Arriving late, families, lots of luggage, first-time visitors | Book ahead and share your flight number |
| Ride-hailing apps | Travellers with a working local data connection | Finding the pickup point; surge pricing at busy times |
| Airport taxi | No booking needed | Agree the price before you get in |
| Hotel car | Simplicity | Usually the most expensive option |
With a pre-booked transfer, your driver is waiting at the time you chose and the price is fixed, so there's no haggling after a long flight.

- Check the visa rules for your passport before you fly; many nationalities can get an e-visa online in advance.
- Note which terminal you arrive at — the airport has several, and your driver needs to know.
- Have some Egyptian pounds or a card for small costs; ATMs are available in the arrivals area.
- Keep your hotel's address written in Arabic too, in case you need to show it.
Tip: Going straight on to Giza or a tour the same day? A private driver can take you from the airport directly, luggage and all.
